If you are an iPhone or iPad owner it’s probably about time that you upgrade your iOS. In the past few days Apple has released two new updates which are iOS 6.1 and the iOS 6.1.1 Beta. Interestingly in-between these releases Evad3rs ha released an iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak. It seemed that Evad3rs waited for the final public release of iOS 6.1 before they have released their jailbreak so Apple will not release a new version to patch the loopholes. Apparently just days later iOS 6.1.1 Beta was seeded to iPhone and iPad developers. Many wondered if it would the new jailbreak useless.

Apple iOS 6.1.1 Beta download is available from Apple Developer Center. The beta brings an improved maps for Japan. This is not much if you are in US, but for those who are in Japan this is a huge leap in Apple mapping capability. It has enhance turn by turn navigation. It also has some clear pronunciations for road names, and landmarks.

The new optimized map features new suggestions for highways to narrow roads. It also alerts travelers entering a toll road. Including fees information, labels for junctions, intersections on and off ramps, and new labels for land marks including hospitals, fire stations and post office.

They also added 3D buildings like Tokyo Station, Tokyo Tower, and Japan Imperial Palace.

For those who have encountered the beta were intrigued with its lack of expiration date. It also announces that once the update is made the iOS will no longer be downgraded to earlier versions. It turn out however that the iOS 6.1.1 Beta does not patch the holes on iOS 6.1 jailbreak. But then this jail break was not built for the new iOS 6.1.1 Beta so anyone planning to jailbreak their device is not advised to make the update.

A week a go Apple has officially made a public released of iOS 6.1. Basically the update was about adding LTE 4G capability to about for 36 iPhone carriers plus 23 iPad carriers around the world. It also allows capability to purchase Fandango movie tickets through Siri. This feature is available for US users only. It also includes iTune Match update for subscribers to download individual music from iCloud. It also features a new button to reset Advertising Identifier.
