Sending SMS might be pricey if you frequently chat with your friends using your iPhone. Furthermore nobody wants to fill his/her inbox with words full of ‘OKs and LOLs’. :) What we need in the age of commucation is clear, mobile chat apps! So, thankfully there are a gazillion iOS developers who produced lots of useful chat apps for us. Here is the list of 10 most preferred, world-wide popular chat apps that you can communicate with your friends without any charge!
1. WhatsApp
WhatsApp is the number one application that you can use to chat instantly. You just have to pay $0.99 once then it’s free. It uses your internet data plan as all of them. You can create groups with your friends. Besides text messages you can send images, videos and audios. It’s simple and well-designed.
2. Viber
Viber is WhatsApp’s number one rival. After getting a code Viber searches your contacts to see which friends of you uses Viber. Then you can start a real time chat with them. Although Viber is so similar to WhatsApp it provides one more big thing. Free calls! Yeah, you can use Viber to make free calls using internet. That’s great, isn’t it? :)
3. Skype
Skype is my favorite chat software on desktop. It’s still great on smartphones too! Since Microsoft acquired Skype, nowadays it merged its contacts with Hotmail and MSN. You can make free calls and send text messages using Skype. With the huge power behind it Skype is a very reliable chat application for iPhone users.
4. Facebook Messenger
Here’s another great chat application idea: Facebook Messenger! If you like Facebook and always check it like me, then its Messenger application can be suitable for you too. One good thing for Facebook Messenger is that nearly all the people you contact are on Facebook, so even you don’t have their phone numbers you can chat with them if you are friends on Facebook.
5. Kik Messenger
On its official website it says: ’30 million users love Kik.’ So, you may be one of them. :) You sign up on Kik using your e-mail adress, then you have to choose a username for yourself. Now it’s time to find your friends or wait for them to find you. After these steps you can start chatting with your friends. There’s no calling option on Kik but it’s still very popular among iPhone users.
6. WeChat
We chat is very popular especially in China. So, if you live in Asia or have lots of friends there you might think using WeChat. If you want to find your friends quickly you can connect WeChat to Facebook. WeChat has video chat feature. That makes it diffirent from other chat applications of iPhone.
7. ChatON
Although ChatON is a chat app designed by Samsung, it’s also adapted for iOs. So, you can use it easily on your iPhone. ChatOn is simpe, you just verify your phone number and start using it. It scans all your onboard contacts. ChatOn claims that it will make you closer with your friends. You can try it!
8. Line
I can say Line is different because you can use this instant message application both on your phone and PC (and MAC of course). You can send messages, videos, audios, and make VoIp calls. To use Line on your desktop PC you should install a software and register your phone number with your e-mail adress. Line has 74 million users worldwide.
9. LiveProfile
You sign up on LiveProfile with an e-mail account, then you can add your phone number. LiveProfile will also provide a PIN number to share with ypur friends. You can use this PIN to contact with people without giving them your phone number. LiveProfile doesn’t have calling ability but it has very beautful user interface.
10. Groupme
My last chat application for iPhone is Groupme. As you can predict from its name Groupme ensures users the ability to chat in a group. Groupme is special because you can start group messaging over SMS. So the one who doesn’t have internet connection can still stay in the group and chat with them, but don’t forget it will use your SMS plan.
